JESUS IS GOD.
The Bible does not record a single verse in which Jesus directly said, “I am God.” However, that does not mean that he did not express his divinity. Through his words, actions, and the reactions of those around him, we see clearly that Jesus is God incarnate.
- Declaration of divinity:
Jesus said,
“I and the Father are one” (John 10:30)
The reaction of the Jews shows that they understood that he claimed to be God:
“We stone you… because you, being a man, make yourself God.” (John 10:33)
Jesus did not deny the accusation, because it was true. Another time, He declared:
“Before Abraham was, I am” (John 8:58)
The Jews continued to try to stone Him (John 8:59), because according to the law of Moses, anyone who said that he was God and was not, was guilty of blasphemy (Leviticus 24:15). But Jesus did not correct Him – because He was God.
- Testimony from the disciples and apostles:
The apostle John affirmed:
“The Word was God… and the Word became flesh” (John 1:1,14)
Paul wrote:
“The church of God which He purchased with His own blood” (Acts 20:28)
Clearly, the One who shed blood was Jesus – so He was God.
The disciple Thomas confessed:
“My Lord and my God!” (John 20:28)
And Jesus accepted that confession.
In Titus 2:13, Paul speaks of:
“Our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ.”
Similarly, in Hebrews 1:8, the Father himself addresses the Son, saying:
“Your throne, O God, is forever and ever.”
- He is worthy of worship:
In Revelation 19:10, the angel forbids John to worship him, because only God is worthy of worship. Yet Jesus was worshiped many times and He did not stop it:
The wise men worshiped Him as a child (Matthew 2:11)
The disciples worshiped Him when they saw Him perform miracles and resurrect (Matthew 14:33; 28:9,17; Luke 24:52)
The blind man who was healed also worshiped Him (John 9:38)
If He were not God, He would not have received worship – but He did.
- Why Deity Is Essential:
If Jesus were not God, then:
His death was not valuable enough to atone for the sins of all mankind.
He was only a created being – not holy enough to bear the sins of the world.
Salvation would be impossible, because only God can forgive sins and give eternal life.
But the Bible says:
“He is the propitiation for our sins…and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.” (1 John 2:2)
“He who knew no sin…was made sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in him.” (2 Corinthians 5:21)
The resurrection of Jesus is the proof of His victory over death, and the ultimate confirmation that He is Almighty God.
CONCLUSION:
From Jesus’ own words, to the testimony of His disciples, to His worship, and finally to His death and glorious resurrection – all point to one great truth:
JESUS IS GOD.
Without Him – there is no salvation. Without Him – there is no eternal life. Believing in Him is more than faith – it is life.
“There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12)
AMEN.
