What Is Religion? Why Jesus Is Not a Religion
- Religion is a Carnal Activity – It Cannot Save the Soul
Religion, by its very nature, is a social – cultural – legal system that belongs to the world. It is established by the state, sponsored by the ruler, and operates in the physical space:
Churches, temples, places of worship.
Rituals, community forms.
Orders, hierarchies.
Traditional, cultural and political activities.
But that cannot touch the soul. Religion cannot regenerate a person. It can educate morality, preserve culture, or create community, but it cannot save.
- Jesus Is Not a Religion
Jesus did not come to found a religion. He came to give Life itself, to meet each individual, to call each divine person back to the original image that God created.
“I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6)
Jesus did not represent a national religion. He did not come in temple authority, was not a Levite, was not a rabbi or priest according to the Jewish system. It was the Jews who turned the Mosaic law into a state religion, and then rebelled against Jesus when He came in the power of the Spirit.
- Religion Cannot Replace a Personal Relationship with God
Jesus did not call anyone to “religion,” but to individuals to become divine persons – living spiritual people, called by name by God:
The church has no soul.
The church cannot replace the individual soul.
Religious officials do not represent Jesus.
Only each human being, created in the image of God, with a living soul, can meet Him, love Him, and walk with Him.
- Religion and Politics – Two Sides of the Worldly Coin
Religion and politics are often just two different systems of governance of the same fleshly force:
Religion controls the soul through morality, fear, and superstition.
Politics controls behavior through power, law, and coercion.
Neither leads people to true Life. Therefore, Jesus did not enter the structure of the temple or the throne, but established His Kingdom in the hearts of each person.
- Conclusion: Religion Does Not Save – Only the Name of Jesus Can Save
“There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12)
If you are seeking God through religion, stop.
Seek Him personally, in sincere prayer, in living Scripture, in repentance – let the Holy Spirit Himself teach you the Name of Jesus.
