Distinguishing the Only Name of Salvation – “JESUS” – from Other Names and Titles of God
- JESUS – The Only Name of Salvation
The Bible clearly shows that there is only one name given to mankind by which we can be saved, and that is the name “JESUS”.
“There is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” – Acts 4:12
The name “Jesus” (Hebrew: Yeshua) means: “Jehovah is salvation”. This is not just a name like other names in the Old Testament, but the only personal name, with the power to save, revealed and embodied by God when He came in the flesh.
It was He to whom all the prophets and the law pointed, the Messiah, the Deliverer for whom Israel was taught to look.
- All Other Names Are Just Names, Attributes, and Offices – Not Salvation Names
Throughout the Old Testament, God revealed Himself through many titles, attributes, and offices, such as:
Jehovah-Jireh – The Lord will provide (Genesis 22:14)
Jehovah-Nissi – The Lord is my banner (Exodus 17:15)
Jehovah-Shalom – The Lord is my peace (Judges 6:24)
Jehovah-Tsidkenu – The Lord is our righteousness (Jeremiah 23:6)
El Shaddai – The Almighty God
El Elyon – The Most High God
Adonai – The Lord
YHWH (Jehovah/Yahweh) – The Eternal One
These names refer to the the character or saving action of God, but not the specific name that brings salvation.
Even the name YHWH – “I AM” (Exodus 3:14) – is a mysterious name, but it was never fully revealed until the Word became flesh, and it was revealed in the humanity of Jesus Christ.
- Jesus – The Only Name That Fully Reveals God
“The Word became flesh and dwelt among us…and the Word was God.” – John 1:1, 14
“You shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” – Matthew 1:21
“That at the name of Jesus every knee may bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” – Philippians 2:10–11
No other name – no matter how great – can replace or stand equal to the Name of JESUS in the matter of salvation. This Name is the full manifestation of the Word, God in human flesh.
- Only One Name Saves – No Other Than Him
“I am the Lord, and there is no savior besides Me.” – Isaiah 43:11
“You shall call him Emmanuel, which means, ‘God with us.’” – Matthew 1:23
From the Old Testament to the New Testament, all revelation converges on one point: There is only one Name – the Name of Jesus – which is the only way of salvation.
All other names are mirrors that reflect every aspect of God’s being. But Jesus is the perfect image of the invisible God (Colossians 1:15).
- Identify the Correct Name – Distinguishing It from Common Names
Languages such as English, French, Vietnamese… use common words such as:
“God” – Lord
“Lord”, “Lord”, “Lord”, etc.
These words are not proper names, but respectful terms or divine concepts.
Only the Name “Jesus” is the proper name of salvation given by God to mankind. That is why the devil does not tremble before religious titles, but trembles before the Name of Jesus, because:
“The Name is above every name…” – Philippians 2:9
- Conclusion:
Jesus is the only Name revealed to save mankind.
All other names in the Bible are correct, but are only descriptive, honorific, functional – without the power of salvation.
God has revealed Himself in the name of Jesus – the center of the plan of redemption and the only way to eternal life.
“This is eternal life, that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.” – John 17:3
