THE TEN COMMANDMENTS – THE LAW OF FAITH IN THE SALVATIONAL GRACE OF GOD

THE TEN COMMANDMENTS – THE LAW OF FAITH IN THE SALVATIONAL GRACE OF GOD

INTRODUCTION: The Ten Commandments are ten laws given by God to the Israelites after they left Egypt (Exodus 20:1–17; Deuteronomy 5:6–21). These ten commandments summarize all 613 laws in the Old and New Testaments. The first four deal with the relationship with God, the last six with the relationship with man. This is not just a moral law, but a Law of Faith in the SALVATIONAL GRACE.

The entire Ten Commandments are a declaration of absolute exaltation of the sole saving authority of God, Jesus Christ.

  1. You shall have no other gods before Me.

No other God can save the soul:

“There is salvation in no one else…” (Acts 4:12) “I am the First and the Last, and besides Me there is no other.” (Isaiah 44:6)

  1. You shall not make an idol… to worship.

No material image is worthy of being worshiped in place of the Eternal One. Such an act is an insult to the Savior of God and also a humiliation of your own dignity as a person who bears the image of God.

  1. You shall not use the name of God in vain.

The name of God is life:

“Whoever calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Romans 10:13) “His name is above every name.” (Philippians 2:9–10)

  1. Remember the Sabbath to keep it holy.

A day set aside for rest and communion with God, a time to lift up the spirit to the Creator. Worshiping God is also to free the soul from the bondage of the world.

  1. Honor your parents.

Being grateful to your parents is a living image of being grateful to God:

“Whatever you did for one of the least of these, you did for me.” (Matthew 25:40)

  1. You shall not murder.

Human life is sacred, created in the image of God. Murder is an offense against the dignity of the Creator himself.

  1. You shall not commit adultery.

God values marriage and fidelity – it is a reflection of the covenant between God and His people.

  1. You shall not steal.

Respect for the property of others is a principle of justice and love. Those who live in gratitude will not steal what does not belong to them.

  1. You shall not bear false witness.

God is Truth, and He calls His people to live in truth. Lies destroy trust – an essential part of loving community.

  1. Thou shalt not covet…

Greed is the root of other sins such as theft, murder, adultery. This is a commandment that targets the root of the heart. A grateful person will not envy or compete, but will learn to give and be content.

  1. The Ten Commandments – The Law to See Your Need for Salvation

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23) “There is no one who does good, not even one.” (Ecclesiastes 7:20)

The Ten Commandments help people realize that they are sinners – unable to save themselves by their works, but need faith in Jesus Christ:

“The law is our guide to Christ, that we may be justified by faith.” (Galatians 3:24)

CONCLUSION: THE TEN COMMANDMENTS ARE THE LAW OF GRATITUDE AND FAITH IN SAVING GRACE

✅ The Ten Commandments do not save the soul – but they reveal the need for a Savior.

✅ Whoever truly believes in God will love His Law and live according to His commandments.

✅ Keeping the commandments is not a way to be saved – but is a proof of a living faith.

✅ The Ten Commandments are the Law of Faith in Grace – whoever rejects the commandments rejects grace and salvation.

“For by grace you have been saved through faith… it is the gift of God.” (Ephesians 2:8)
