Religious teaching often leads people away from God’s Word and instead to traditions, personal opinions, or “new visions” that are not in line with the Bible. An example is the “prosperity gospel,” which teaches that God only wants us to be rich and healthy, while Jesus called us to deny ourselves and take up our cross. Deviating from Biblical teaching leads to division and loss of the true image of Christ. - Constantly judging others
Religious teaching leads people to look at the outside and condemn others instead of showing love and mercy. For example, a new believer enters a church with a different appearance, a religious person will criticize, while a true believer will love and welcome. God calls us to love sinners as He did. - Hypocrisy
They may pray loudly, but harbor hatred, not greeting their brothers and sisters. Jesus said in Luke 16:15: “What is highly esteemed by men is an abomination in the sight of God.” The religious spirit is concerned with outward moral appearance, but lacks true love and repentance from the heart. - Only focusing on external holiness
Religious people believe that holiness is the way they dress, their hairstyle, no makeup, etc. But God looks at the heart. A person who looks proper but is filled with bitterness is still far from God. Jesus rebuked the Pharisees because they were clean on the outside but dirty on the inside. True holiness is the work of the Holy Spirit within a person. - Always criticizing and judging the walk of others
Instead of building and seeking unity, they only focus on the mistakes, worship styles, and interpretations of the Bible of others. They prefer to argue and prove themselves right rather than show love and kindness. The Apostle Paul teaches in Romans: “Do not judge one another, but be careful not to cause others to stumble.”
