The Herd of Fear – The Trap of Fear of Man. Why do people fear people?
Because people see people – and are caught up in the gaze of others.
We are easily influenced by the eyes, words, judgments, and even the acceptance or rejection of the world. The mind is bound by the need for recognition – but does not realize that it is a trap.
“How can you believe, who receive glory from one another and do not seek the glory that comes from the only God?”
- John 5:44
When people seek glory from others, their faith in God is shaken.
This is a manifestation of a herd of fear – a mentality of fear, dependence, and loss of spiritual self because of being caught up in the gaze of the crowd.
Fear of Man – A Dangerous Trap
“The fear of man is a snare,
but whoever trusts in the Lord is safe.”
– Proverbs 29:25
Fear of man causes us to avoid the truth, to live in falsehood, and to trade eternal values for temporary approval. But true faith comes when the heart is no longer held captive by the views of others, but is turned toward the Holy One.
Who Is the True Protector?
“I, even I, am He who comforts you.
Who are you that you should fear mortal man, that the son of man will become like grass?”
– Isaiah 51:12
“The Lord is for me; I will not fear;
What can man do to me?”
– Psalm 118:6
Man is but grass – it blooms and then withers. Only God is Eternal. He knows every human being and He is the only safe place in the sea of change.
Escape from the “Lonely Herd” – Finding the Divine Perspective
To be truly free, each person must learn to stand before God, not before the crowd. Refuse the fleeting glory given by people, to seek the glory from the Creator alone.
Only when our eyes turn from people to God, can the spirit be freed from the invisible trap: fear of people.
