The Eternal Investor – Investing in the Divine

Jesus not only came to redeem human souls, but He also taught us how to “invest” in eternity—a spiritual investment, of eternal value, far beyond any temporal possessions on earth.

When someone came to say that His mother and brothers were looking for Him, Jesus said:

“Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?”

He stretched out His hand toward His disciples and said: “Here are my mother and my brothers!” (Matthew 12:48–49)

In this way, He established a new family—not of blood, but of faith and obedience. Those who do the will of the Father in heaven, those who live according to His Word, are His brothers, sisters, and mother. This is the community of divine people, those whom He has transformed into the image of His Son.

Then He went on to expand on the principle of eternal investment:

“There is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or lands, for My sake and for the gospel’s, who will not receive a hundred times as much in this time—with persecutions—and in the age to come, eternal life.” (Mark 10:29–30)

The Lord never lets sacrifices for Him go in vain. Whatever we give up for His kingdom, He will return many times over, not only in this life but also in eternity.

Indeed, every act of love, every small care for a person of God, is recognized by Him:

“Whoever gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is a disciple will certainly not lose his reward.” (Matthew 10:42)

Even the smallest things are a valuable “investment” in God’s eyes, if done in His name.

So how do you invest for eternity?

“Use the wealth of this world to make friends for yourselves, so that when it is gone, they may welcome you into the eternal dwellings.” (Luke 16:9, NIV)

Wealth is not a goal in itself, but a means to connect, to help, to lead others into the eternal kingdom. Those who use their worldly possessions to serve the Gospel and others – when their wealth is gone, they will be welcomed into the eternal dwelling: where the investment never loses value.

Biblical examples show this clearly:

Rahab the harlot – the only one in Jericho whose entire household was spared (Joshua 2) because she welcomed God’s people.

The widow of Zarephath – because she dared to give her last meal and oil to the prophet Elijah, her oil never ran out, surviving the famine (1 Kings 17).

The widow with the jar of oil – obeying the prophet Elisha, she filled many jars, had more than enough to live on and pay her debts (2 Kings 4).

On the contrary, the rich young man refused to follow God because he did not dare to let go of his wealth – and the Bible says: “It is harder for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven than for a camel to go through the eye of a needle.” (Matthew 19:24)

Conclusion:

Investing in yourself in this life is temporary. Investing in God and His people is eternal.

Let our treasures, time, and lives be “banked” into the eternal kingdom, by loving, welcoming, supporting, and sustaining those whom He loves – His disciples, His servants, and the little ones of His people.

For where there is investment in the Kingdom, there is a reward that will never perish.
