Faith & Contentment

Faith & Contentment
“She ate and was satisfied, and had some left over.”
Ruth 2:14

Ruth, a Moabite, was forbidden by the law to enter the assembly of God (Deuteronomy 23:3). But grace opened an unexpected door. Despite being a “foreigner,” a “widow,” and a “poor person”—three categories the law specifically targeted (Deuteronomy 24:19-21)—Ruth humbly entered the field of grace, seeking mercy without asking for it.

She said, “Please let me go and glean after someone who will take pity on me.”
But what she received was more than she could have hoped for.

A Meal of Grace
At noon, Boaz called Ruth over:

“Come here, dip your bread in the vinegar, and eat it.”
It was more than just a piece of bread; it was an invitation to fellowship.

She sat near the harvesters, eating like one who was accepted. Boaz even personally brought her popcorn, and she ate her fill, even having enough left over to take home to her mother-in-law.

A Shadow of God’s Grace
Ruth’s invitation to eat with the harvesters is a picture of us – those who were once “outsiders” far from God, but are now invited to the feast of grace in Christ.

We too are invited:

To drink the living water without digging a well (John 4:10)

To eat the bread and the cup in remembrance of the One who suffered

To be satisfied and have more than enough left over – enough to share with others.

To be satisfied and to exceed
Ruth ate her fill and saved what was left over. This is not just material care, but a symbol of spiritual fulfillment – what God always offers to those who seek refuge in Him.

“He is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine.” (Ephesians 3:20)

Lesson for Today
Don’t be afraid to draw near, even if you feel “outsider” or “unworthy.”

Seek grace, as Ruth did in Boaz.

Be content in God, and know that He has more than you can ask.

Share the rest—his testimony, his love, his spiritual blessings.

“Lord, I come to your table, not only to be filled, but to be satisfied in you.”
