THE PROPHETIC GIFT WORKING – THE PROPHETIC FUNCTION

THE PROPHETIC GIFT WORKING – THE PROPHETIC FUNCTION

  1. The Nature of the Prophetic Calling
The beginning of Jeremiah’s ministry was clearly defined by Jehovah:

“I have put my words in your mouth. See, I have appointed you over nations and over kingdoms, to uproot, to pull down, to destroy, to overthrow, to build and to plant” (Jeremiah 1:9–10).

The first prophetic function is not to comfort or encourage, but to pronounce judgment. The true prophet must be willing to speak words that hurt the flesh, expose sin, and destroy false foundations before he can build the right on a new foundation.

  1. Prophets do not expose private lives – but false systems
A true prophet does not use visions to expose private lives of God’s people, but to expose false systems of worship, church organizations based on human desires, traditions – which are deviating from the Word of God. The boldness of a prophet does not come from personality, but from the anointing and fear of the Lord.
  2. Against false religious traditions
Prophets often have to deal with what people love – religious traditions that have been ingrained for generations. They are rejected, opposed, labeled “anti-God” simply because they expose what is widely accepted. But if they do not break, they cannot be restored.
  3. Do not fear people – do not live for applause
A true prophet does not live for recognition, does not compromise for praise. He must overcome the addiction to praise and overcome the fear of criticism. His word is like fire – burning away all impurities. They do not seek comfort, but God’s pleasure.

THE PROPHETIC FUNCTION – PART 2

  1. Discernment in the Spirit – living counter-culturally
The gift of prophecy requires supernatural discernment by the Holy Spirit. The prophet sees not with human eyes, but with God’s perspective. His very life is a rejection of falsehood – living simply, poor if necessary – so that his words carry the weight of heaven.

He cannot participate in a false system and condemn it at the same time. Like John the Baptist who lived in the wilderness, he could not stay in Jerusalem filled with religious corruption.

  1. A way of life that confirms the message
A true prophet is not measured by his gift of prophecy, but by his life. Elijah did not sit at Jezebel’s table, he lived on ravens and streams. Rejection of material things, position, and human glory – is the mark of a life that has been given to the full.

THE PROPHETIC FUNCTION – PART 3

  1. Delivering God’s Word, Calling to Devotion
The prophet’s word is not just information, but a call to sacrifice – sometimes suffering, even martyrdom. He does not simply explain God’s will, but presents it in a powerful way to win obedience and devotion from his listeners.

“If I say ‘Yes’ to this, I sign my death warrant” – that is the true reaction of a person who hears a heavenly prophecy.

  1. Bringing Eternal Truth to the Midst of Crisis
The true prophet comes into the midst of turmoil to restore lost spiritual vision, and call God’s people to hope in God’s eternal will. But first, he must condemn sin, destroy all counterfeits, and prepare the ground for a new Church.

CONCLUSION: PROPHETS – BRINGERS OF TRUTH FROM HEAVEN
True prophets protect the sanctity of the word. They do not abuse words, do not like to appear in the midst of boring conversations. They are not bought by fame, position, or honor. They do not make people feel good about themselves, but make them realize their need for God.

And they proclaim:

“There shall be neither dew nor rain these years, except by my word” (1 Kings 17:1).

Not empty words, but judgment from heaven. Through them, God reveals both judgment and restoration – a new church, a new standard, a new vision from heaven.
