A Vision for a New Spiritual Harvest Field: The Bay Highlands of Gia Lai and Rattanakiri
The Great Commission of Jesus Christ is echoing powerfully across the land connecting the Gia Lai Highlands (Vietnam) and Rattanakiri (Cambodia) with the Central Coast. God, in His sovereignty, is opening a large and effective door for the work of spreading the Gospel. The significant development of transportation, especially the Tây Sơn and Sông Cầu bay corridors, is not just an economic step forward but also God’s preparation for a great spiritual harvest season. This is the time for churches and every Christian to grasp this vision, recognizing this land as a strategic mission field awaiting His harvesters.
As God Clears the Way…
Geographical separation was once a major challenge, but now, the Lord Himself is leveling the mountains and filling in the valleys for His Word to be proclaimed:
- From Gia Lai: The vital routes connecting the highlands to the Tây Sơn corridor and Quy Nhơn seaport have broken down barriers, creating favorable conditions for pastors, ministers, and mission teams to travel and connect.
- From Rattanakiri: The new road leading to the Sông Cầu bay (Phú Yên) is not just a trade route but also a path for the light of the Gospel to spread from the highlands to the coastal areas, as well as for essential resources to be brought in from abroad.
Crucially, the Tây Sơn – Sông Cầu economic corridor has linked the two important port gateways of Quy Nhơn and Sông Cầu bay. This has transformed the area into a shared entry point for both Gia Lai and Rattanakiri. As people are brought closer together through physical roads, this is also an opportunity from God for us to bring them closer to Him through love in Christ.
Building a Gospel Proclamation Center
As earthly roads are opened, we have a responsibility to build “highways for our God” (Isaiah 40:3). This land has the full potential to become a strategic center for the expansion of God’s Kingdom in Vietnam and Cambodia.
We can work towards forming a strong cooperative mission network here. With Gia Lai and Rattanakiri as the focus, churches can unite and connect with fellow believers in other areas to collectively fulfill the Great Commission.
This cooperation will bring great results for the Kingdom of Heaven:
- Effective Mission Strategy: Instead of working in isolation, local denominations and churches can pray together, plan, and execute mission programs, training, and discipleship in a synchronized way, leveraging each other’s gifts and strengths.
- Wise Resource Allocation: Personnel and finances will be prioritized for the places most hungry for the Gospel, especially remote villages and unreached ethnic groups who have not yet heard about Jesus.
- Being Salt and Light to the World: Mission work will go hand-in-hand with acts of love and community service. Through this, God’s name will be glorified, and everyone will know we are His disciples by the love we have for one another and for our fellow people.
A Call to Action
The development of the Highlands-Coastal region is a precious opportunity that God is giving to His people. “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few” (Matthew 9:37). It is time for us to ask the Lord of the harvest to send more laborers into this field.
This is a call to every pastor, every minister, and every believer. Let us pray, give, and be ready to commit. Let us unite in the Holy Spirit to proclaim the name of Jesus, to transform this land from a land of economic promise into a land that inherits eternal life in the Kingdom of God.
